The first match of the playoffs for Champions Istanbul began with the meetup between two South American teams LOUDandLeviatan. Lets see how they faired in their first meeting. By this time, Leviatan looked to be running out of steam a fact that LOUD took advantage of. They easily won rounds 25 and 26, giving them the win with a score of 14-12....
Brazil is loud and proud at Champions Istanbul. Day three of Champions Istanbul Playoffs stage saw two big matches played in the upper brackets. The first was the match betweenLOUDfrom Brazil andDRXfrom South Korea. Who will rack the first loss between these two teams? LOUD then capitalized on the winning streak in the second map,Haven. They immediately took the narrative and won the first two rounds before DRX managed to win their first....
The number one team in NA sent the number two team down to the lower brackets. Prompted by the losses they saw in the first half; OpTic went on a rampage. Ascentagain saw XSET lead in the first half, this time with six-points.
They became the second team to be eliminated from the tournament, joining Leviatan. The series started onBind, where Fnatic was the aggressor right out of the gate. They won eight rounds before Team Liquid managed to grab a win of their own. Even so, Fnatic led the first half by six points. Team Liquids lacklustre performance continued on the second map,Haven.
The European team unfortunately will be packing home after their run at Champions. It was a tense moment for APAC fans asDRXwas the last team representing the region at Champions. Even so, Fnatic led the first half with two points by the end of the first half. Ascentis where DRX rose to challenge Fnatic. The two teams then trade blows to round 24, where the official match ended with a tie....
The four teams represent four of the six circuits currently set under VCT. All four teams have shown great performance in their journey through Champions Istanbul so far. The first match will be betweenLOUDandOpTic Gaming a North versus South America showdown. Next will be betweenDRXandFunPlus Phoenix. Again, another grudge match in the top four.
It was a close match between the Americans and the Europeans. The second and final match of day two ofChampions IstanbulsPlayoffs stage was betweenXSETandFnatic. XSET started strong with a streak of 5-wins back-to-back before Fnatic was allowed a win for themselves. Fractureis where the pedal met the metal for both teams. The lead for the first half was cut to only two points with XSET trailing behind this time around.
The win was even sweeter considering the 100 Thieves roster is in isolation due to COVID. Group Ds second match was interesting, to say the least. Not that it is a match between two big teams. The match kicked off withPearl, the newest map in VALORANT. Both teams played well heading into the first half, grabbing six wins each. Bindbecame where Fnatic turned the table around, as they are the aggressors this time around....
The Koreans ruled in this match between East and West. Group D started its opening matches for Champions Istanbul. The first match sawDRXfrom Korea going up againstFURIA Esportsfrom South America. Haven, the second map, is where FURIA seemed to fall apart. The pistol round in round 13 was especially brutal to FURIA.
A quick two-map jaunt and the Koreans head to the Volkswagen Arena. Group Ds first Playoffs team has been decided. The match began with Breeze, where both teams showed that they were on par. By the end of the first half, DRX took the lead. However, by round 24, 100 Thieves drew with DRX, so overtime was called.
The second Group C opening match was also the final opening match of the group stage. Even so, KRU finished the first half with a six-point lead. The map ended with a draw by round 24, so overtime was called. Bindsaw FPX working with the winning momentum they achieved from the previous map and used it to the fullest.
100 Thieves was eliminated from Champions after grabbing just a single win in the group stage. The match between Europe and North America was set to be entertaining for fans. By the end of the first half, Fnatic secured an eight-point lead over 100T. The second half saw Fnatic easily carrying over the momentum they experienced in the first half. By the end of the first half, Fnatic easily overcame 100Ts defensive with a four-point lead....
